Details:

Anthropic is changing its privacy policy for Claude Free, Pro, Max, and Claude Code users. By September 28, 2025, every user must select whether their conversations can be used to train future AI models. Choosing to share means Anthropic can store data for five years to improve reasoning, coding, and analysis. Declining keeps the current rule of deletion within thirty days, unless flagged for policy or legal reasons. Enterprise services, Claude Gov, Claude for Work, and API access via Bedrock and Vertex AI are excluded. New users will see the choice at signup, and existing users will be prompted.

Why It Matters:

If you opt in, Claude can learn from your chats and code; if you opt out, your history sticks around for 30 days and isn’t used for training. Opting in could make the tool sharper at coding or analysis, but means giving Anthropic long‑term access to conversations. The update puts the decision squarely in users’ hands. Practical move today: keep secrets and client files in Work or API, add a redaction step to prompts, and delete ad hoc threads you don’t want in future training runs.
