Evolving AI: A leaked GitHub repo shows the Trump administration is planning a full-scale push to bring AI into every U.S. government agency.

Key Points:

  • The AI.gov GitHub repository was spotted, then quickly taken down after media inquiries.

  • Launch is set for July 4, with features including a chatbot, API access, and an agency-wide AI tracking tool.

  • The project is being led by former Tesla engineer Thomas Shedd, now head of GSA's TTS team.

Details:

A now-removed GitHub repository revealed plans for AI.gov, a federal site aiming to bring AI tools into every part of the government. The site was being built by the GSA’s tech division, led by Thomas Shedd, who joined earlier this year. Based on backups of the staging site, AI.gov would include a chatbot, an all-in-one API to access major AI models, and a dashboard tool called CONSOLE to track AI use inside agencies. Model rankings were also mentioned, though details were sparse. The entire setup vanished after questions were sent to people involved.

Why It Matters:

The leak signals an aggressive push to embed AI across federal agencies, but the secrecy around its development is troubling. A major government AI initiative quietly built behind closed doors, then scrubbed from the web after discovery, is not a reassuring start.

Evolving AI: ByteDance says its new Seedance 1.0 model beats Google’s Veo 3 on video quality, motion, and prompt accuracy.

Key Points:

  • Tops the Artificial Analysis benchmark for text-to-video and image-to-video

  • Handles complex scenes with smooth camera transitions and consistent characters

  • Trained on cleaned, annotated video data with human feedback

Details:

ByteDance has launched Seedance 1.0, a new AI video model that it claims beats Google’s Veo 3, OpenAI’s Sora and Kuaishou’s Kling. On benchmark site Artificial Analysis, it ranks first in both text-to-video and image-to-video tasks. Seedance 1.0 generates longer videos with multiple scenes, accurate movements and sharp visuals. It was trained on a large video dataset, filtered for quality and manually annotated. Human feedback helped fine-tune its output. It takes about 41 seconds to create five seconds of Full HD video. Audio is not supported yet.

Why It Matters:

Video models are getting better fast. What was state of the art a month ago is now second place. The speed of improvement is accelerating and so is the competition.

Evolving AI: Meta is investing billions into Scale AI and bringing on CEO Alexandr Wang to lead its superintelligence push.

Key Points:

  • Meta is putting $14.3B into Scale AI, taking a 49% non-voting stake in the startup.

  • Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang is leaving to join Meta, with Jason Droege stepping in as his replacement.

  • A few Scale employees will join Meta, but Scale will stay independent and continue working with other clients.

Details:

Meta’s investment secures a strategic partnership with Scale AI, one of its key data partners. Alexandr Wang will now work on Meta’s internal AI efforts, helping drive its superintelligence projects. Despite owning nearly half the company, Meta won’t have access to Scale’s client data or influence over its business. The startup’s new CEO, Jason Droege, previously held leadership roles at Uber and Benchmark. This move signals a shift in Meta’s AI strategy, with Zuckerberg betting on outside talent after disappointing internal results with its latest Llama models.

Why It Matters:

Meta is doubling down on AI leadership by investing in outside expertise. Scale AI is a major supplier of labeled data for training large models, used by OpenAI, Google, and others. Alexandr Wang, its founder, is seen as one of the sharpest operators in the AI space. His move to Meta shows how valuable top AI talent has become and how aggressive tech giants are getting to secure it.
