At Meta Connect 2024, Mark Zuckerberg introduced Llama 3.2, Meta’s improved language model that can understand and edit images. For example, you can ask the AI to change a shirt’s color or add a helmet to a photo. Meta’s AI assistant now also supports voice interactions, letting users chat with it using voice commands. With this, they’re now a direct competitor to OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode as people are able to use it for free. This feature is now available in Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger in selected regions, and you can even choose from celebrity voices like John Cena or Judi Dench. Meta is also rolling out a real-time translation feature for Reels, allowing videos in Spanish to be dubbed into English and vice versa, with the lip movements matching the new language.

Mira Murati, OpenAI’s long-serving CTO, recently announced her departure. Alongside her, Head of Research Bob McGrew and VP of Research Barret Zoph also exit. Despite the abrupt timing, Altman noted the decisions were independent. Promotions followed: Mark Chen as Head of Research, Jakub Pachocki as Chief Scientist, and Matt Knight as Chief Information Security Officer. The company is transitioning to a for-profit structure, with Altman set to receive shares for the first time. This restructuring could boost OpenAI's value to $150 billion.
