🗞️ LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Evolving AI: OpenAI starts a pay-for-use plan for developers.

Key Points:

  • OpenAI will pay US developers for using their GPT models.

  • Testing starts with a few developers to improve the pay plan.

  • This comes as OpenAI faces issues with GPT's performance and rules.

Details:

OpenAI revealed on X that they’ve kicked off a new program where developers in the US can make money based on how much others use their GPT models. This plan was first talked about when Custom GPTs were introduced in November 2023. Right now, it's being tested with a small group of developers. The goal is to figure out the best way to pay developers for their work. Details about who is testing it, how the money is shared, and when more developers can join are still not shared. This new program is OpenAI's way to fix some problems like keeping control of what GPTs say, stopping political bots, and reducing spam.

Why It Matters:

With this new plan, OpenAI is looking to build an ecosystem where builders are rewarded for their work. It encourages developers by paying them based on how much their models are used, offering an excellent opportunity for people who are looking to earn money with AI. As OpenAI continues to build better models for ChatGPT, attracting more and more users, this could turn into a very significant revenue stream for individuals in the future.

Evolving AI: Amazon makes its biggest investment in AI yet.

Key Points:

  • Amazon puts another $2.75 billion into AI firm Anthropic.

  • Anthropic competes with OpenAI and ChatGPT in AI.

  • The goal: put Amazon at the front of the AI race.

Details:

Amazon's huge $2.75 billion investment in Anthropic is its biggest investment yet, aiming to grab a top spot in the fast-growing AI field. This investment in Anthropic is adding to its initial $1.25 billion investment. By backing the San Francisco-based startup, which is on par with big names like OpenAI, Amazon is making a clear statement about its deep interest in AI's future. Anthropic recently unveiled Claude 3, its newest AI that outdoes others like OpenAI's GPT-4 and Google's Gemini Ultra in tests. This move shows Amazon's big plans for AI and points out the tough competition among tech giants to lead in creating new AI tech.

Our Thoughts:

The Amazon-Claude collaboration is another step in Big Tech's race for leadership in generative AI. While Microsoft is partnering with OpenAI and investing at least $10 billion for a reportedly 49% stake, Amazon has lacked a super high-profile partnership in this space until now.

Evolving AI: X’s Grok chatbot will soon get an upgraded model, Grok-1.5.

Key Points:

  • Grok-1.5 gets better at math and coding tasks.

  • It understands much more information at once, is great with long and complex talks and texts.

  • Handles tricky subjects with a unique, bold style.

Details:

Elon Musk's AI company, X.ai, has announced their new AI creation, Grok-1.5. This new model will soon be the brain behind X's social network chatbot, Grok, as mentioned in a recent blog post by X.ai. They say it's coming very soon, in just a few days. Based on the performance data and details shared by X, Grok-1.5 seems to be significantly better than the earlier version, Grok-1. One key feature is its huge "memory" for conversations, allowing it to remember and use a lot more information than before. This means you can have deeper and longer chats without the bot forgetting what you were talking about. Plus, Grok-1.5 keeps X.ai's tradition of talking about a wide range of topics in a fresh and bold way.

Our Thoughts:

What’s historically set X.ai’s Grok models apart from other generative AI models is that they respond to questions about topics that are typically off-limits to other models, like conspiracies and more controversial political ideas. The models also answer questions with “a rebellious streak,” as Musk has described it, and outright rude language if requested to do so. Although this is a significant improvement over Grok-1, xAI still lags behind OpenAI and Anthropic. Let’s see if they can catch up.
