🗞️ LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Evolving AI: OpenAI gears up to unveil new ChatGPT and GPT-4 upgrades.

Key Points:

  • OpenAI's live announcement is set for 10 a.m. PT on Monday.

  • Expect to see innovative developments in ChatGPT and GPT-4.

  • CEO Sam Altman teases impactful updates, clarifying "not GPT-5, not a search engine."

Details:

It’s rumoured that today OpenAI will spotlight agents, voice input, and new ChatGPT functionalities at its event, rather than unveiling GPT-5 or a novel search engine. The company is said to be crafting an AI voice assistant superior in speech and image recognition, and logical reasoning compared to its rivals at Google and Apple. This assistant will be part of a more efficient and cost-effective model than GPT-4 Turbo. Potential enhancements for ChatGPT might include an updated user interface, an improved voice mode, customizable GPTs, connectors for cloud services, enhanced search features with web search and quotations, and new options for chat sharing.

Why It Matters:

OpenAI's upcoming updates have the potential to accelerate the AI era in our everyday digital interactions, potentially transforming how we engage with AI. A voice assistant that knows everything about you and can assist with all your tasks is likely to be a revolutionary feature that will see widespread adoption. In a few years, will we look back at May 13, 2024, the same way we currently reflect on March 14, 2023, when GPT-4 was released? Only time will tell.

Evolving AI: What if AI could set up your next date after trying it out first?

Key Points:

  • Whitney Wolfe Herd sees AI making dating easier and less tiring.

  • AI concierges might go on dates themselves to see if their humans match.

  • This concept mirrors a story from the show "Black Mirror," blending sci-fi with possible future tech.

Details:

Whitney Wolfe Herd recently shared a bold idea where AI could simplify finding love. She imagines AI "dating concierges" that chat about our fears, then go on dates with other AI to find good matches for us. This could mean not having to swipe through hundreds of profiles but instead getting a few, well-matched suggestions. Herd thinks this method could make dating not only simpler but also more focused on meaningful connections.

Why It Matters:

Is it possible for AI to change our love lives without removing the magic of romance? Herd's idea feels like something from a sci-fi show, but it might show us a new way to connect deeply with fewer people. Will we let AI pick our dates, or is the human element too important to give up? Time will tell, but the way we date might be heading for a big change, driven by new tech.

Evolving AI: Discover AlphaFold 3, Google DeepMind’s latest leap in biotech.

Key Points:

  • AlphaFold 3 maps complex biological structures and interactions.

  • It's free for non-commercial use, boosting research worldwide.

  • Could greatly speed up the discovery of new medicines.

Details:

Developed by Google DeepMind, AlphaFold 3 can predict how proteins, DNA, RNA, and possible drug components interact. Published recently in Nature, this advanced model builds on its predecessors by analyzing a broader range of molecules and their interactions. By using computers to estimate how molecules interact, this tool could transform drug discovery. Instead of slow, expensive lab work, researchers can now do fast, cheap virtual tests on drug compounds.

Why It Matters:

For non-commercial research, DeepMind is making most of the features of AlphaFold 3 available for free through the AlphaFold Server. DeepMind spin-off Isomorphic Labs is already using it for real-world drug design challenges to accelerate the development of new therapies.
