Evolving AI: OpenAI’s GPT-4o is making AI interactions feel even more human-like. But beware: it’s still not human.

Details:

Artificial intelligence is advancing at a breakneck pace. OpenAI’s ChatGPT, launched 18 months ago, quickly reached 100 million users. Now, OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-4o, promises to revolutionize AI interactions further with GPT-4 level intelligence but faster and with better capabilities in text, voice, and vision. It excels in understanding and discussing images, translating menus, and more. Future updates will bring real-time voice and video conversations. GPT-4o is rolling out to ChatGPT Plus and Team users, and soon to Enterprise users. Free users will also gain access, albeit with message limits.

ChatGPT Free users can now experience GPT-4 level intelligence, get web-based responses, analyze data, chat about photos, and upload files for assistance. The new desktop app for macOS allows seamless integration with your computer, offering instant queries and voice conversations with ChatGPT.

Why This Matters:

OpenAI focused on efficiency when developing GPT-4o: The new model is said to be twice as fast and 50 percent cheaper than its predecessor, the GPT-4 Turbo. It can now be used for free in ChatGPT, clearly outperforms GPT-4 Turbo in benchmarks, and achieves an ELO score 100 points higher than its predecessor in more difficult programming tasks.

At Google I/O, CEO Sundar Pichai revealed Gemini 1.5 Pro, which doubles its context window to two million tokens. The new Gemini Flash model, designed for efficiency, is perfect for summaries and chat applications. Both models are now in Google's AI Studio. New features in Google Workspace include email summaries and virtual teammates. Gemini Live and personalized chatbots called "Gems" will soon be available for advanced subscribers. Project Astra showcases a multimodal AI assistant capable of real-time text, video, and audio processing. Google also introduced Veo for video creation, Imagen 3 for lifelike images, and Music AI Sandbox for music production.

• Features include smart searches, real-time updates.

• Limited testing for U.S.-based users via EG Labs.

Details:

Expedia is launching Romie, an AI assistant trained with in-house and OpenAI models, to enhance travel planning. Romie can help users search for hotels, build itineraries, and make changes. You can chat with Romie on iMessage and WhatsApp, asking for itinerary summaries or restaurant suggestions. The bot is integrated with Expedia’s app, providing direct links to itineraries and suggestions. Expedia’s new smart search allows users to describe desired hotel features, like "Rooftop and view of the sea," without using filters. Expedia is testing these features with a limited U.S. audience through its EG Labs program.
