What’s New with GPT-4 Turbo?

OpenAI has launched a new AI model called GPT-4 Turbo. It’s a big upgrade because it’s less expensive, works faster and is smarter than before. This means that people who make apps can now use AI that understands more information quickly and doesn't cost as much.

How Good Is GPT-4 Turbo?

GPT4 turbo supports a token length upto 128,000 (on par with Anthropic model) equivalent to 300 pages of a standard book. Sam Altman mentions that the model will be accurate over the long context.

Special Programs for Companies

OpenAI says GPT-4 Turbo is also 3x cheaper per token for input and 2x cheaper for output versus the previous GPT-4. For enterprise users, lower pricing means faster payback on AI investments. But it also lowers the barrier for startups and smaller teams to leverage advanced generative AI.

API updates and more

It’s not a developer conference without updates to the one OpenAI tool developers use – the OpenAI API. Updates include the ability for models to accept images as inputs, with DALL-E 3 coming to the API, as is GPT-4 Turbo with Vision capabilities.

There is also the ability to view log props in the API, which will be made available “in the coming weeks.” Another update saw Whisper get an overall upgrade via Whisper v3, which is "coming soon" to the API.

Protecting Creators: Copyright Shield

There’s also a new service called Copyright Shield. This protects users from legal problems when they use AI to create content. It’s a safety net for those who publish their AI-generated content.

Build Your Own AI

OpenAI’s updates mean that now anyone can create custom versions of ChatGPT that combine instructions, extra knowledge, and any combination of skills. These AI chatbots can search the web, create images, or even write code. OpenAI hopes this will make AI safer and more useful for everyone.

Marketplace Coming Soon

In November, OpenAI will open a marketplace. Here, you can share or sell your AI chatbots with others. This is great for those who make really good AI chatbots; they might even earn something from their work.

Aim for Safer AI

All these updates from OpenAI are about making AI that’s safe and beneficial for everyone. They want to involve as many people as possible to help decide what AI should do.

Conclusion: The Future Shaped by Accessible AI

OpenAI's launch of GPT-4 Turbo marks a transformative moment for AI. It's not just about smarter technology; it's about opening doors to those who were previously left out of the AI revolution due to cost or complexity.

Now, anyone with an idea can harness this powerful AI, fostering innovation at an unprecedented scale. It's a leap towards an era where AI tools are as common and easy to use as smartphones.

This democratization could lead to a surge in new businesses and educational opportunities, creating a ripple effect across economies and societies.

OpenAI's emphasis on safety and ethics with features like Copyright Shield ensures this progress doesn't come at the cost of responsibility.

A New Era of AI

In essence, GPT-4 Turbo could catalyze a new era where AI is an integral, trusted part of daily life, helping to solve problems big and small. OpenAI's update is a leap towards a future where AI's potential is unlocked not just for a few, but for all.
