In a blog post on his website, Sam Altman reflected on the past two years and, more interestingly, gave us a glimpse into the future as they shift focus towards Superintelligence. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics has increased its stake in Rainbow Robotics from 14.7% to 35%. He expressed confidence in OpenAI’s progress toward AGI, stating, “We are now confident we know how to build AGI as we have traditionally understood it. We believe that, in 2025, we may see the first AI agents ‘join the workforce’ and materially change the output of companies. We continue to believe that iteratively putting great tools in the hands of people leads to great, broadly-distributed outcomes.”

Altman also shared the company’s vision beyond AGI, focusing on true superintelligence. “We are beginning to turn our aim beyond that, to superintelligence in the true sense of the word. We love our current products, but we are here for the glorious future. With superintelligence, we can do anything else. Superintelligent tools could massively accelerate scientific discovery and innovation well beyond what we are capable of doing on our own, and in turn massively increase abundance and prosperity.”

Evolving AI: Samsung increases its stake in Rainbow Robotics to accelerate humanoid robot development.

Details:

Samsung is taking a big step into the robot world by becoming the top owner of Rainbow Robotics. In 2023, Samsung bought 14.7% of the company, and now it’s increasing that to 35%. Rainbow Robotics will now be a part of Samsung’s business group. This deal will use Samsung’s AI smarts and Rainbow Robotics’ robot skills to build advanced humanoid robots. A special team from both companies will plan new tech and products while looking at market needs. Rainbow Robotics’ robots will also be used in factories and warehouses to automate tasks, learning and adapting with AI to get better over time. Samsung has also set up a Future Robotics Office to lead these projects. Dr. Jun-Ho Oh, a well-known robot expert and one of the creators of Rainbow Robotics, will head this office. He will help Samsung use his years of experience to make amazing new robots.

Samsung is only the latest to enter the race to develop humanoid robots that can do more autonomously. Microsoft and OpenAI are planning to use their tech for a humanoid robot, and Tesla earlier this year showed off its own take on robots, Optimus. Nvidia, too, has plans to release a new line of compact computers for humanoid robots, called Jetson Thor, this year. With Samsung’s collaboration the competition is heating up, and the pace of innovation is speeding up. How soon will these robots become a part of our daily lives?

Evolving AI: Microsoft is planning to spend $80 billion on data centers for AI by 2025.

  • Other countries, like China, are also trying to grow their AI systems.

Details:

Microsoft says it will invest $80 billion by 2025 to build more data centers that can run AI programs. Brad Smith, a top leader at Microsoft, explained that most of this spending will happen in the U.S., where AI is growing fast. This investment will help Microsoft’s partnerships with companies like OpenAI and xAI. It also supports the use of AI in their products, like Windows and Teams. Microsoft’s AI services are growing quickly. In the first part of 2025, these services added 12% to the company’s Azure revenue growth. Microsoft wants to stay ahead as AI becomes more popular around the world. Smith also pointed out that China is helping other countries with AI by offering cheaper tools and data centers, which could make them rely on Chinese systems. He says the U.S. needs to work hard to stay a leader in AI.
