Welcome, AI enthusiasts

The coding agent race just moved off the desk. OpenAI dropped Codex into the ChatGPT mobile app today across every plan, free tier included, three months after Anthropic shipped the same idea with Claude Code Remote Control. The model layer is roughly even now. The contest has shifted to whose app developers actually keep open. Let's dive in!

In today’s insights:

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Evolving AI: Codex is now in the ChatGPT mobile app across every tier, free users included.

Key Points:

  • Codex is live in preview on iOS and Android across all ChatGPT plans, including Free and Go.

  • Phones can connect to Codex running on macOS at launch, with Windows host support to follow.

  • Enterprise plumbing shipped alongside, including generally available Remote SSH and hooks, plus HIPAA-compliant Codex use for eligible Enterprise workspaces.

Details:

Codex has crossed 4 million weekly users, and the agent now runs long enough that staying chained to a laptop has become the bottleneck. The mobile app fixes that by pairing your phone with a Mac running Codex and loading the full live session. Screenshots, terminal output, diffs, and test results stream to the phone in real time, so developers can review threads, approve commands, switch models, or start new work from anywhere. Files and credentials stay on the host machine.

Why It Matters:

Anthropic shipped Claude Code Remote Control in February, and Claude Code has since climbed to a reported $2.5 billion annual run rate and roughly 4% of public GitHub commits. OpenAI is moving on the same ground, but pushing wider by opening mobile Codex to the free tier instead of gating it behind premium plans. Whichever app developers keep coming back to is the one that wins from here.

Stop forgetting what you agreed to

You know that feeling when you leave a meeting and immediately forget half of what you promised?

That’s not a memory problem. It’s a meetings problem.

Granola helps you become the person who actually follows through. Take quick notes during the call; nothing formal. Granola transcribes in the background and turns those notes into clear summaries with real next steps.

After the call, share notes with the team so everyone’s aligned. Or chat with them to pull out exactly what needs to happen next.

No more dropped balls. Just clarity and follow-through.

Evolving AI: China's Unitree unveiled a transformable mecha as it preps a Shanghai IPO.

Key Points:

  • The GD01 is a 2.8-metre manned mecha that shifts from bipedal to quadrupedal mode in seconds.

  • It is built largely in-house, priced around $573,000, and runs the transformation autonomously.

  • The launch coincides with Unitree's Shanghai STAR Market IPO filing, targeting a $7 billion valuation.

Details:

CEO Wang Xingxing piloted the GD01 himself at the Hangzhou reveal, climbing into a chest cockpit on a 500kg frame of titanium alloy, aerospace aluminum and carbon fibre. The machine stands nearly ten feet tall and reconfigures its chassis without external help. Unitree calls it the world's first mass-produced transformable mecha. Behind the spectacle is a company that shipped over 5,500 humanoid robots in 2025, grew revenue 335 percent to $235 million, and is now heading for a 4.2 billion yuan listing.

Why It Matters:

A $574,000 walking vehicle is not the product, it is the trailer. Chinese firms shipped nearly 90 percent of humanoid robots last year, while Tesla, Figure and Agility moved around 150 units each. Unitree is riding that gap straight into public markets. The mecha gets the headlines, but the real exhibit is a supply chain Western rivals have not figured out how to copy.

Evolving AI: Anthropic and the Gates Foundation announced a $200M, four-year partnership for AI in health, education, and agriculture.

Key Points:

  • The work spans global health, education, and agriculture, with a sharp focus on low- and middle-income countries.

  • Priority areas are global health, life sciences, K-12 education, and economic mobility.

  • Initial disease focus includes polio, HPV, and preeclampsia, with applications across vaccine screening and disease forecasting.

Details:

The partnership directs Claude toward problems markets typically ignore, starting with overlooked diseases like polio, HPV, and preeclampsia. Anthropic's Beneficial Deployments team will help scientists speed up vaccine screening and make Institute for Disease Modeling forecasts usable by non-specialists. The education track reaches students rarely served by commercial edtech, with tutoring and college-advising tools across the US, India, and sub-Saharan Africa. Agriculture work goes to smallholder farmers, who get localized crop data and AI guidance in their own languages.

Why It Matters:

The numbers signal where AI philanthropy is heading. The Gates Foundation backed OpenAI with $50M in January for African clinics, then added $60M in February with Wellcome and Novo Nordisk for AI health evaluations. This $200M commitment dwarfs both. As US aid budgets shrink through 2026, frontier labs are stepping into roles that used to belong to development agencies.
