🗞️ LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
Evolving AI: Meta confirmed its GPT-4 competitor, Llama 3, is coming soon.
Key Points:
Llama 3's launch is coming up fast.
Meta plans to use Llama 3 in many products.
Expect better performance and more features.
Details:
During a London event, Meta confirmed that Llama 3, the latest iteration of its generative AI model, is set to launch soon. Llama is Meta’s open-source large language model that is available for free for research and commercial use. Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs, said “there will be a number of different models with different capabilities, different versatilities [released] during the course of this year, starting really very soon”. Chris Cox, the Chief Product Officer, said Llama 3 will be used in many of Meta's products, aiming to make it a key part of their technology. Llama 3 is designed to be much stronger than it’s previous version, with 140 billion parameters which will help it handle a wider variety of questions.
Our Thoughts:
Meta's earlier move to open-source AI is a clever and important step that could really shake up the AI world. By letting others use and improve one of the top AI models for free, Meta is sparking more competition and faster advances in technology. Many believe that open-source AI, which anyone can contribute to and use, will eventually outdo private AI systems like those from OpenAI and Anthropic. As more people use Llama 3, Meta will get more and more data to enhance their models. This approach could turn out to be a winning strategy for Meta.

Evolving AI: Intel's new Gaudi 3 chip takes on Nvidia in the race for AI supremacy.
Key Points:
Intel's Gaudi 3 chip is more efficient and faster than Nvidia’s H100 GPU.
Available in multiple configurations, it supports large-scale AI model training and deployment.
Partnerships with major tech manufacturers ensure widespread availability in Q3.
Details:
Intel's latest Gaudi 3 chip is setting up to shake up the AI chip market. It claims to use less energy and run faster than Nvidia's H100 GPU, making it a strong contender. The Gaudi 3 will be available in configurations such as an eight-chip bundle or a single card for existing systems. It's tested on AI models like Llama 2 and Abu Dhabi-backed Falcon. Intel said Gaudi 3 can help train or deploy models, including Stable Diffusion or OpenAI’s Whisper model for speech recognition. Although Nvidia controls 80% of this market, Intel’s new chip and its deals with other big tech firms look set to stir up strong competition.
Our Thoughts:
As the AI field expands, Intel's aggressive move with the Gaudi 3 might lead to more choices in the market and lower prices for companies integrating AI at scale. This could be the start of more competition in the AI chip industry.
MICROSOFT
