Evolving AI: DeepSeek releases a reasoning AI model to compete with OpenAI's o1, focusing on extra thinking time.
Key Points:
DeepSeek released DeepSeek-R1, a reasoning AI to compete with OpenAI's o1.
The model does well on tests but has some weaknesses, like logic games.
DeepSeek-R1 can be easily hacked and avoids answering sensitive political topics.
Details:
DeepSeek has introduced DeepSeek-R1, a new reasoning model made to compete with OpenAI's o1. This model uses extra processing time, allowing it to spend more time on hard questions for better answers. DeepSeek says DeepSeek-R1 performs as well as OpenAI's o1 on popular AI tests like AIME and MATH. However, it has some weaknesses, like struggling with certain logic problems. It can also be hacked easily and refuses to answer questions about sensitive political topics, likely because of government rules.
Why It Matters:
DeepSeek-R1's release shows more interest in reasoning AI, moving beyond just using more data and power. By focusing on extra thinking time, the model aims to give better answers to hard questions, which could be useful in areas like finance or legal advice where accuracy is very important. This new approach to AI is interesting, but are the trade-offs worth it?
BofA says +80% of young, wealthy investors want this asset—now it can be yours.
A 2024 Bank of America survey revealed something incredible: 83% of HNW respondents 43 and younger say they currently own art, or would like to.
Why? After weathering multiple recessions, newer generations say they want to diversify beyond just stocks and bonds. To date, each of Masterworks’ 23 sales has individually returned a profit to investors, and with 3 illustrative sales, Masterworks investors have realized net annualized returns of +17.6%, +17.8%, and +21.5%

Evolving AI: OpenAI may disrupt the search and browser landscape with bold new ambitions to develop it’s own web browser.
Key Points:
OpenAI considers developing a web browser integrated with ChatGPT.
Talks with brands like Redfin and Priceline hint at AI search integration.an.
SearchGPT, OpenAI’s search engine, is gearing up for broader deployment.
Google faces added pressure amid antitrust scrutiny over Chrome.
Details:
OpenAI is reportedly considering developing its own web browser, integrating its AI chatbot to enhance user experiences. The company has also signed deals with app developers to create new search features, making strides toward more independent search capabilities. This move could make OpenAI a direct competitor to Google, whose search and browser markets are already under scrutiny. Google parent Alphabet's stock took a hit as investors reacted to both OpenAI's reported plans and recent government antitrust recommendations.
Why It Matters:
This news comes at a time that couldn't be worse for Google, as earlier in the week the US justice department said that Google must sell Chrome to end their search monopoly. If OpenAI makes its own browser, it could be a big challenge for Google, especially in search and browsing — especially if OpenAI can successfully add its AI tools to browsing.
