This model aims to create high-definition videos from text descriptions, showcasing a proficiency in generating content with distinctly Chinese themes such as pandas and dragons. Although its capability to produce only up to 16 seconds of video at a time contrasts with OpenAI’s Sora, which can create minute-long videos, Vidu marks a significant step in China's push into the generative AI arena.

The Relevance:

With Vidu, China unveils its first AI model for text-to-video generation, said to be comparable to OpenAI's Sora but still lagging behind the US competition. What’s even more important and prevalent from the recent development is that maybe OpenAI isn’t as far ahead of its competition as everyone is thinking. Is this because the Board already has too many AI-related CEOs, or is there a bias against open-source AI?
